I have some fantastic news.

[...considering this is a text coming from Rideaux, it's probably anything but fantastic for anyone else involved.]

[Emmy is in the middle of trying on her new uniform when she receives Rideaux's text - oh, this'll be interesting.]

Oh? Well, don't make me hold my breath.

I was granted a promotion. You will now know me as Private Rideaux.

[Obviously he knows that still isn't that impressive of a title so he's mostly joking about that bit.

But he's still pretty damn pleased about this promotion. Finally, a bit of power!]

Is that so?

[The timing of that little announcement is rather good, you know; Emmy has just finished putting on her new uniform! So hopefully you won't mind if she switches this conversation to video, for a moment.]

Only if you address me as Private Emmy.

Okay he might be just a little butthurt by this development. This was supposed to be his bragging time! Emmy wasn't supposed to be right up there with him...! Couldn't he at least get a moment or two of smug accomplishment?]

[But if Emmy's going video, then he supposes he may as well too.

He's not dressed any differently than usual since he's currently not on direct Rocket business- lots of maroon and his signature black boa. He's definitely trying to feign some sort of pride for Emmy, his smile thin and strained.]

Well, would you look at that. Seems we're both going places in this organization. I'm impressed you had it in you to make it this far, Emmy.

[Or that she even wanted to move up, but hey. Ambition is good, even if it's clashing with his own desire to be praised.]

That uniform is a step up as well. No reason to roundhouse kick Grunts over that, I'm guessing?

Nevertheless, Emmy will take a seat at her desk so she can chat to you properly; we're friends, after all! Friends pay attention to friends when they're talking!]

I only intend to do some roundhouse kicking if the grunts don't behave, Rideaux~! I've been assigned as a trainer for the newbies. Suits me, don't you think?

[...she's not going to give you time to provide your thoughts, however, because god only knows what you'd say-]

I suppose I ought to congratulate you; I'm not surprised to see that you also climbed the ranks.

[That could easily be a very backhanded compliment, but she's sure you'll find the positives...]

[He tries, he really does.

...And as if on cue, he goes to open his mouth to make some sort of quick snide comment but is promptly shut down. It doesn't stop him from smirking knowingly though. Oh Emmy, he's really not sure if you're the best one for that. You're going to give them the wrong idea about this organization!

You really shouldn't be, no. It's natural for me. As you know, I held a management position back home.

[Of course he only saw the positives.]

I will return the congratulations to you too, though. You are competent at what you do at least, so I imagine the admins would take notice.

[Oh she sees that smug smirking, you; don't think she doesn't know what you're thinking, there! Clearly she'll just have to prove you wrong!

We've obviously both been noticed by someone powerful, anyway. I don't know whether to be flattered or nervous!

[Flattered because...well, it is most definitely an ego stroke, getting a promotion after being here for such a short time...and nervous because the thought of the admins watching her is...not exactly a pleasant one considering her anti-Rocket activity, um.

She may have to behave herself for a little while. At least that's where Rideaux comes in very useful; hanging around with such a perfect Rocket is an excellent disguise. It's like hiding in plain sight!

Even if he is a bit of a jerk.

Either way, moving up from the Grunt position can only be a good thing. Being on the lowest rung of the ladder made me a little nervous, I'll admit.

At least this way we've got some weight to throw around.

There's no need to be nervous if you know what you're doing. You've gotten it right so far, so just keep doing what you're doing and there shouldn't be a problem.

[Super simple. Or...maybe not so for Emmy, considering what they've been doing up until today isn't exactly what she enjoys.

...yeah, it's probably for the best that she's with the newbies. At least Rideaux gets to keep up with being a horrible person like a model Rocket. When he's not at the PokeCenter anyway.]

Exactly. I will admit, I enjoy the idea of being to call orders again. We may not be Betas, but at least we can keep the Grunts in line. They won't be back-talking to us anytime soon.

[It sure is great having power, man.]

[If there's a problem that can't be solved with a good roundhouse kick, she's yet to find it!

If I didn't know better, Doctor, I'd say that you just gave me a compliment paired with some good advice. Do I get that on the house?

[She's aware that it's probably...not a good thing to be told "you're doing the evil thing well, good job" from a person who seems experienced with it, but...hell, she'll take the compliment. Especially considering how rare they are from this gentleman in particular!]

HE MINDS A LOT because he didn't intend for that to be a major thing. He didn't expect Emmy to take it to heart like that.

...His face displays a expression of mild annoyance accordingly, but he's quick to steel himself as always.]

That's because I did, though I thought everything I said was rather obvious. You're free to keep it, though you'd better not expect me to repeat myself should you screw up something so simple.

[He doesn't expect her to, though. At least for now.]

[Alright alright, don't get your knickers in a twist! If you're curious, though, she is definitely not giggling at you.

Don't worry, I won't take it to heart! Although I admit, it could be fun to see if I can get another one from you.

Something tells me I shouldn't get my hopes up, but you never know! You may surprise me yet~!

[Don't do that to him Emmy, even if it's obvious it's still valuable...!

You know what fine, he's cool. He's...totally cool and calm right now.]

Keep talking like that and you're going to prove yourself right. If anything, you should try to surprise me if you're actually seeking another. Take training some actually competent newbies- now that would be a surprise.

[Apparently he just issued a challenge on the back of a putdown...?]

Time for an appropriate stance!!]

Calling my training skills into question already, are you? Well, I'll just have to show you how good I am at what I do!

[Despite her intense tone and posture, Emmy is still clearly amused; the fact that she's fighting to hide a smile might...be rather indicative of that...]

I might even offer you some free sessions if you behave yourself!

[While that is definitely a sneer on his face, at the same time he actually seems to be considering that offer.

Of course, the way he responds isn't going to reflect his thoughtfulness at all.]

You actually think you have anything worthwhile to teach me? Don't forget who you're talking to. I am already highly skilled.

[...Yeah, he's just a little curious. If there's one thing he enjoys doing, it's absorbing the techniques of others.]
